ACM Institute announce " TALENT HUNT 2018 " !!
This FEBRUARY, we will be seeking talents from different colleges in different categories. It will be an amazing platform to showcase your talents among the enthusiastic students who are attached with ACM Network. Also, the best ones will be awarded with gifts and prizes.

Categories 

1) Software skills

• Imagined Plan of Building or any Structure
• 3D Sketches of the same Plan

2) Video Presentation

• Any presentation on any topics    or
• Any Recorded Video on any topics 

3) Writing Competition

• Article/Essay on Engineering Topics

Conditions

1) Software Skills

• You must use AutoCAD for drawing plan of a building. 
• AutoCAD or Sketchup can be used for 3D Designs
• There is no limitation on story or area. Just be creative.
• You should submit the plan of structure before you start its 3D Work.
• Plan shoudl be submitted by 9th FEB and 3D should be submitted by 15th FEB.  

2) Video presentation 

• Presentation can be on any topics ( Engineering are preferred ) 
• Either your face or your voice must be there on the video. 
• Class presentation or live presentation which are already on YouTube are eligible.
• Your presentation must be complete. (no time limit) 
• Presentation can be done by screen record in laptop or mobiles.
• Recorded video can be on any topic of any length with normal quality. 
• If you don't have your own uploading platform, you can mail us at acmsow@gmai.com.

3) Writing Competition 

• The articles and essays strictly should be on civil engineering topics.
• The priority topics includes following: 

1. Civil Engineering Structures/mega-structures  
2. About Civil Engineering 
3. Disaster Risk Reduction 
4. Pollution/Solid Waste Management/Sewage Management 
5. Earthquake and related aspects 
6. Or any engineering topics 

• Essay/Article Should be more than 300 words long.
• It should be in your own words, copying is strictly prohibited.
• It should be submitted in PDF with proper formatting.

*You can participate in all 3 competition.

• All the winners will be announced in A common MAN Page.
• He/She will be given opportunity in next ACM Institute programs as a presenter/co-ordinator.

What is Project Appraisal ?

It is a detail, systematic and comprehensive review of the economic, financial, social, technical, environmental and other aspects which are related to the project to determine whether the designed plan meets the objectives.

What is DPR ?

DPR stands for Detail Project Report in engineering. Detail Project Report is a complete document for project planning, decision making, approval and investment. It is considered as a base document for planning and implementing the project.

Objectives of DPR 

• To understand about the project in detail and assure that it can perform with reliable quality within optimum cost.
• To study whether the projects are site specific or not.
• To understand the importance of optimization of the schemes, detail cost estimate, payback period and return on investment. 
• To understand methodology of project appraisal 

Contents of DPR

1) Brief Description of the project

• Area, Density, Population, boundaries

So, these are the major things that are included in a DPR. Data are collected from different sources to perform analysis and make a report. It is done especially in large project to understand the project in details. It mainly helps in identifying risks, helps in cost & resource management and ultimately help in driving the project within the schedule with greatest control. 

Metacentre and Metacentric Height

The metacenter may be defined as a point about which a floating body starts oscillating, when a given a small angular displacement. It is denoted by M.

The metacentric height is the distance between the center of gravity (G) of the floating body and the metacentre (M).

6) RECONSTRUCTION MODELS PRESCRIBED BY GOVERNMENT 

In this topic, you can make 2-3 models of the houses  like 

- Stone masonry in Mud mortar ( 1 Story)

- Brick/Cement masonry in mud mortar ( 1 Story ) 

- Stone masonry in Cement mortar ( 2 Story)

( Use thermocoat to make simple models) 

Beside these, you can show the house models by printing in paper.

So, these are few things you can present as a model in earthquake day. There are so many ideas but what I suggest is pick one topic and study in it properly, then only make simple and attractive model.

What are the things that should be considered while selecting the reservoir ?

A Good site for a reservoir should have the following characteristics:

What is Right to Reject ?

Right to Reject

This is a special right given to the citizen by which a citizen can reject all the election candidates by voting in a specific symbol for it. If any citizen found that none of the election candidates are good, obedient and a good service men then a special option is kept in ballet paper and by voting in that option he can reject all candidates. If that option gets majority of vote then re-election is called. In that election none of the previous candidates can again be a candidate from any constituencies for at least 5 years. So new fresh candidates will come and the corrupted one will be replaced by new energetic and good leader. This right plays vital role in the developing country like Nepal.

Right to Recall 

This is a right given to the people in which citizens can recall their representatives from the House of Representatives. If the representative is found doing illegal activities, corruption and other misuse of power and authority then the citizens of his\her constituency can collect the votes against him. If 75% of the citizen votes is reached then he must resign from that post and new one will replace him. For the new one either election can be done or the candidate of second position in the previous election will represent the house. This right must be given to the people so that any leader won't misuse any post, won't do corruption and illegal activities. This is more powerful than the right to reject.
