What is DPR ?

DPR stands for Detail Project Report in engineering. Detail Project Report is a complete document for project planning, decision making, approval and investment. It is considered as a base document for planning and implementing the project.

Objectives of DPR
  • To understand about the project in detail and assure that it can perform with reliable quality within optimum cost.
  • To study whether the projects are site specific or not.
  • To understand the importance of optimization of the schemes, detail cost estimate, payback period and return on investment.
  • To understand methodology of project appraisal

Contents of DPR

1) Brief Description of the project
  • Name
  • District/town
  • Location: latitude, Longitude
  • Area, Density, Population, boundaries
  • Climatic conditions
  • Status of development: road, electricity, communication access etc.
  • Socio-economic status
  • Stakeholders and agencies involved
2) Detail Cost Estimate
  • Equipment Costs
  • Raw materials and processing
  • Man Power Cost
  • Duties, Tax and travel cost
  • Project Management and supervision cost
3) Benefit Analysis
  • Investment methodologies and criteria
  • Analysis of Returns (IRR, BCW, NPW etc.)
  • Socio-economic benefits
4) Planning of project
  • Process of Tendering
  • Project management process
  • Resource management and procurement procedures
  • Project appraisal procedure
  • Environment guidelines

So, these are the major things that are included in a DPR. Data are collected from different sources to perform analysis and make a report. It is done especially in large project to understand the project in details. It mainly helps in identifying risks, helps in cost & resource management and ultimately help in driving the project within the schedule with greatest control.
